PASTORAL CARE / CHRISTIAN SERVICE
The Catholic Faith Community of Rensselaer places a high priority on our parishioners who are ill, homebound, facing surgery or rehabilitative therapies or are in hospice care. To ensure our quality of pastoral care Linda Banker, Pastoral Associate for Pastoral Care/Christian Service, coordinates several programs.

As part of a pastoral care team including the pastor and parish nurse our pastoral associate for pastoral care visits the hospitals regularly. In addition she coordinates a team of parish lay ministers who visit and bring the Eucharist to over 60 parishioners who are homebound within our faith community.

Working hand-in-hand with CoNSERNS-U, a Catholic Charities agency of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany, Linda facilitates our Christian Service Team.

Because care-giving is a highly stressful vocation our Pastoral Care program offers a monthly Caregivers Group. Held on Fridays at lunchtime, it has become a time of support and sharing. Anyone who needs to share the stress of caring for a loved one is invited to attend.

As a sign of our community’s compassion in the face of death parishioners, supervised by Linda, assist at Rites of Christian Burial including vigil wakes, funeral and burial services. We extend to those who grieve the loss of someone dear in death a monthly reminder that we are thinking of them as they continue to mourn. On the feast of All Souls we hold our Annual Evening of Remembrance in which the lives of these beloved dead are remembered.
